- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2/3 cup rice or white-wine vinegar
- 4 large garlic cloves, minced
- 3/4 teaspoon dried hot red pepper flakes
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- In a small saucepan combine all ingredients and simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes. Cool sauce to room temperature. Sauce may be made 3 days ahead and kept chilled, covered.
- Serve sauce at room temperature.
