Smoky Beans Recipe

  • 3 pounds sliced bacon, diced
  • 3 medium sweet onions, chopped
  • 6 (28 ounce) cans baked beans, undrained
  • 6 (16 ounce) cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3 pounds miniature fully cooked smoked sausage links, cut into thirds
  • 3 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 1/2 cups vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard
  1. In a large Dutch oven, cook bacon until crisp. Drain, reserving 3 tablespoons drippings. Set bacon aside. In the drippings, saute onions until tender.
  2. Combine beans, sausage, bacon and onions. Combine the remaining ingredients; add to bean mixture and mix well. Pour into four greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dishes. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 45-55 minutes or until heated through.
