Simple Bechamel Sauce Recipe

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted margarine
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups fat free milk, warmed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • White pepper to taste
  1. Melt margarine over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, but not browned, about 3 minutes.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook for 3 minutes on medium heat, whisking until flour is absorbed. Add LACTAID(R) Fat Free Milk and whisk constantly until the mixture is thick and smooth, about 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and white pepper.
