- 4 medium pears – peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
- 1/3 cup sliced almonds
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons whole grain pastry flour
- 2 tablespoons cold butter
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine the pears, maple syrup, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and nutmeg in an 11 inch X 7 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the oats, almonds, brown sugar, flour, butter, and oil and mix with your fingers to form crumbs. Sprinkle the topping over the pear mixture.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the pears are tender and bubbly and the topping is lightly browned.
