- 1 1/2 ounces rye or bourbon
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon superfine sugar
- 3 or 4 ice cubes
- Chilled champagne
- Combine all ingredients except the champagne in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass and fill with champagne.
