Ham Steak on Creamed Spinach Recipe

Ham Steak on Creamed Spinach Recipe

  • 1 8- to 10-ounce ham steak (1/2 inch thick)
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • 1 10-ounce package frozen chopped spinach, thawed, squeezed dry
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  1. Season ham generously with pepper. Melt 1 teaspoon butter in heavy medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add ham to skillet; sauté until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer ham to plate; tent with foil to keep warm.
  2. Melt 1 teaspoon butter in same skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and stir 30 seconds. Add half and half and simmer until slightly reduced, scraping up browned bits, about 3 minutes. Add spinach and nutmeg. Stir until spinach mixture thickens slightly, about 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Spoon creamed spinach into 2 plates. Cut ham steak in half; place atop spinach and serve.
