Fig and date scones Recipe

  • 500g/1lb 2oz strong flour
  • 85g/3oz sugar
  • 30g/1oz baking powder
  • 85g/3oz butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 225ml/8fl oz milk
  • 55g/2oz dates
  • 55g/2oz figs
  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
  2. Put all the ingredients in a bowl except the dates and figs, gently bring the mixture together until you have a soft dough-like texture.
  3. Add the dates and figs and roll the dough out using a rolling pin to about 4cm/1½” deep.
  4. Cut out scone shapes with a round cutter and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. Brush with egg wash and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
