- 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup CRISCO® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening or CRISCO® Butter Flavor Stick
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 13 x 9-inch baking pan with CRISCO(R) No-Stick Cooking Spray. Place cooling rack on countertop.
- Place brown sugar, CRISCO(R) Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening or CRISCO(R) Butter Flavor Stick, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Add egg; beat well.
- Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Add to shortening mixture; beat at low speed just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans, if desired.
- Press dough evenly onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake at for 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned and firm in the center. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
- Cool completely on cooling rack. Cut into 2 x 1-1/2-inch bars.
