- 1 (4 pound) beef or boneless beef brisket with spice packet
- 1 coffee filter
- Kitchen string
- 2 (12 fluid ounce) bottles lager-style beer
- 3 cups Swanson® 50% Less Sodium Beef Broth or Swanson® Unsalted Beef Stock
- 2 large onions, peeled and cut in half
- 6 small red potatoes, unpeeled
- 3 medium carrots, peeled and cut into 3-inch-long pieces
- 1 (2 pound) head green cabbage, cut into wedges
- Pour the contents of the spice packet into the coffee filter. Tie with the string to make a bundle.
- Place the beef into a 6-quart sauce pot. Pour in the beer and broth. Add spice bundle. Heat over medium-high heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
- Add the onions, potatoes and carrots to the sauce pot. Cover and and cook for 30 minutes. Add the cabbage. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the beef and vegetables are fork-tender. Remove and discard the spice bundle.
