Broiled Sesame Shrimp with Cilantro Recipe

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 3/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh ginger root
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds extra-large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 lemon wedges
  • wooden or metal skewers
  1. In a blender or food processor, combine the olive oil, sesame oil, lemon juice, onion, garlic, cilantro, ginger, paprika, salt and pepper. Cover and puree until smooth. This is the marinade.
  2. Place the shrimp into a large bowl and cover with the marinade. Set aside for 20 minutes to marinate.
  3. Adjust oven rack to highest position and preheat the oven's broiler. Thread shrimp onto skewers and place on a broiler pan or a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Brush shrimp with as much of the marinade as you can get to stick.
  4. Broil until pink and spotty brown, 6 to 7 minutes. Shrimp do not have to be turned. Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
