Baked Ziti with Sausage Recipe

  • 3 cups ziti or other tube pasta, uncooked
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, sliced
  • 8 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded mild Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cook ziti according to directions; drain.
  3. In a saucepan, brown sausage. Remove from pan and drain on paper towels.
  4. Melt butter in a large oven-safe skillet and saute mushroom, green pepper and onion until just tender. Blend flour into the vegetable mixture, stirring until well blended and bubbly.
  5. Gradually add milk and cook over medium low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to boil. Continue to cook and stir for 1 minute. Stir in 1 1/2 cups of the Cheddar cheese.
  6. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of Cheddar, Parmesan and pepper over the top, then bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbly.
